Protect the Polar Bears!!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) — A chunk of Antarctic ice about seven times the size of Manhattan suddenly collapsed, putting an even greater portion of glacial ice at risk, scientists said Tuesday.

Satellite images show the runaway disintegration of a 160-square-mile chunk in western Antarctica, which started Feb. 28. It was the edge of the Wilkins ice shelf and has been there for hundreds, maybe 1,500 years.

Little Girls Grow So Fast!!

Life is fleeting, years rush past...
and little girls grow up so fast!
Let me take time out to be
glad that mine's still here with me.
And though I'm busy through the day,
let me take time out to play...
Let me take time out to smile,
to linger with her for a while...
To invite her under the table for tea
and dress up silly as can be.
Let me take time out to sing
and dance and skip
and twirl and swing...
To splash in puddles when it rains
and make her fancy daisy chains.
Let me take time out to hear
about the things that she holds dear.
Let me tuck her in at night,
hear her prayers, turn off the light.
And for one more moment let me pray
and thank God that we shared this day!

Fun Music Facts - Is that Michael???!!!

Twenty-five years ago this week, Michael Jackson was topping the charts with “Billie Jean.” This is it. Jackson’s most successful single ever. Over 5.25 million units sold. It also nabbed two Grammys in 1984 – for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. Sales aside, most critics agree that “Billie Jean” is Jackson’s creative high-water mark. In 2005, Blender magazine named “Billie Jean” the greatest song since 1980, and Rolling Stone ranked it at #58 on its list of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.” The song is based on a true story. Around 1981, a woman accused Jackson of denying being the father of her child, and also claimed to be married to the pop star, calling herself “Billie Jean Jackson.” The same woman, now 60, was nabbed by police earlier this month for trespassing at Neverland Ranch.
Producer Quincy Jones was not happy about the title of the song, and wanted it changed to “Not My Lover.” He was concerned that listeners would assume Jackson was singing about tennis great Billie Jean King. (Which would certainly, uh, change the song’s meaning.) Legend has it that Jackson nailed the lead vocal on the first take. However, Jackson was probably proudest of composing the intricate and haunting bass line, which he worked on for weeks. During a televised performance of “Billie Jean” in 1983 at a Motown tribute special, Jackson premiered his “Moonwalk.” Minutes later, half of America tried (and failed) to recreate it at home in their sock-feet.

New Artist - yael naim

This might sound familiar cause it was used in the
Mac Book Air commercial but she has so many other
good songs on her album. Yael Naim (Hebrew: יעל נעים)
is a French-Israeli singer and songwriter. Born in
Paris in 1978, Naim moved at the age of four to the
city of Ramat HaSharon, near Tel Aviv, Israel.

Salvia the new drug of choice!

Example

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — On Web sites touting the mind-blowing powers of Salvia divinorum, come-ons to buy the hallucinogenic herb are accompanied by warnings: "Time is running out!" and "stock up while you still can."

That's because salvia is being targeted by lawmakers concerned that the inexpensive and easy-to-obtain plant could become the next marijuana. Eight states have already placed restrictions on salvia, and 16 others, including Florida, are considering a ban or have previously.

"As soon as we make one drug illegal, kids start looking around for other drugs they can buy legally. This is just the next one," said Florida state Rep. Mary Brandenburg, who has introduced a bill to make possession of salvia a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Native to Mexico and still grown there, Salvia divinorum is generally smoked but can also be chewed or made into a tea and drunk.

Called nicknames like Sally-D, Magic Mint and Diviner's Sage, salvia is a hallucinogen that gives users an out-of-body sense of traveling through time and space or merging with inanimate objects. Unlike hallucinogens like LSD or PCP, however, salvia's effects last for a shorter time, generally up to an hour.

Salvia divinorum is not one of the several varieties of common ornamental garden plants known as Salvia.

No known deaths have been attributed to salvia's use, but it was listed as a factor in one Delaware teen's suicide two years ago.

John Lennons "LOST WEEKEND"

Example

If there’s one thing that May Pang has been fighting for the last 28 years, it’s the idea that John Lennon was depressed, isolated and out of control during the 18 months she lived with him, from the summer of 1973 to early 1975, when he reconciled with his second wife, Yoko Ono.

Lennon himself fostered that notion by referring to the time as his “Lost Weekend” in interviews he gave in 1980, when he released “Double Fantasy,” a joint album with Ms. Ono that was his return to music-making after five years’ silence. And lurid, oft-repeated tales of a drunken Lennon’s being evicted from the Troubadour, a nightclub in Los Angeles, seemed to support that image.

But to Ms. Pang, now 57, the “Lost Weekend” was a remarkably productive time, during which Lennon completed three albums — “Mind Games,” “Walls and Bridges” and “Rock ’n’ Roll” — produced albums for Ringo Starr and Harry Nilsson, and recorded with David Bowie, Elton John and Mick Jagger. And having already detailed these experiences (along with the Troubadour expulsions and other dark moments) in “Loving John,” her 1983 memoir, Ms. Pang has returned with the photographic evidence.

When dogs fly

Example

A team of twin brothers from Skewville started making wooden sneakers and hanging them up around NYC and other major cities all over the world as an urban tribute to those days when city kids would throw their sneakers over telephone polls everywhere. Instead of using spray paint or stencils, the Skewville twins http://www.whendogsfly.com/ constructed, by hand, hundreds of wooden sneakers, painted them and threw them up just like when they were kids with their real sneakers, creating a new way to voice their presence and make their mark. Since the inception of their sneaker project, they have had offers from major corporations, including Converse and Nike, to do projects for them; the twins from Skewville refused, claiming that "we had the opportunity to sell out but we turned them down;" their hand-made sneakers are their project, their own corporation of sorts.

Flashlight or Shot Gun?

"Gits Nasty? Git down to business," beams the SHOT Show booth boy after showing off the FMG-9, a concept weapon that can switch from a simple flashlight to a Glock-style submachine gun in one easy flick of the wrist. Designed by Magpul, the FMG-9 is currently in prototype phase, and there's no guarantee whether it will be released or not, but I guess it's one for the personal protection peeps. And nervous dog-walkers.

Dancers in the Crowd Bring Back ‘Thriller’

FROM their seats on the rumbling London Underground, a group of stony-faced passengers rose at random and burst into the jerky slide kick of a zombie dance before melting away without a word.
By this week, the videos had together been viewed more than a million times, to the pleasure of the music company Sony BMG, which staged the scenes to promote the 25th anniversary of “Thriller,” the Michael Jackson album that featured the zombie dance in a graveyard video

RECOGNIZE!

Example

Since its inception in the late 1970s, hip hop has become hugely influential in America. While images of hip hop performers are as pervasive in our culture as the music itself, some visual artists have created powerful images that both celebrate and explore the complexity of this creative form. The six artists and one poet whose work is included in RECOGNIZE! have approached hip hop culture through the lens of portraiture, and, in combination, their contributions highlight its vitality and beauty.

Gnarls Barkley - Run (May cause seizures)

NO Joke:

The video for Gnarls Barkley's new single, "Run," may feature a cameo from Justin Timberlake, but it's still not quite ready to air on MTV.

That's because of its strobe effects, which caused the clip to fail the Harding Test -- guidelines established to prevent TV images from triggering epileptic seizures.

Sony won the battle with HD-DVD. Their signing of an exclusive with Warner Bros. for their Blu-ray disc format puts one of the final nails in the coffin for Toshiba and their partners. All that Sony has to do now is match prices for HD-DVD players and their victory will be complete.

Now maybe the the prices will fall!!!

Kanye West wins four trophies

West had a leading eight nominations going into the ceremony and took home four: best rap album for "Graduation," best solo performance for "Stronger," best rap song for "Good Life" and best rap performance by duo or group for his collaboration with Common on "Southside."

Before Sunday, West had received six Grammys but failed to win awards outside of the rap and R&B categories. He again came up short for best album, which he lost to Herbie Hancock's "River: The Joni Letters."

WHAT!!???

His performance with Daft Punk was sick!!

5IVE'S music pick

This week my Artist of the week is Aesop Rock!

Aesop Rock has always avoided courting mass appeal in favor of lyrically battering tomes and musically unrelenting blitzkrieg. With None Shall Pass, things have changed. There's nothing like a brisk jog to help chill out a few notches, so after the digital-only release All Day--an album in conjunction with Nike, meant to be heard while on a 45-minute run--it's no surprise that the following album from indie hip-hop's most aggressive MC is radically more accessible than his previously feral discography.

Obama raises $7M

Example

The remarkable outpouring of contributions recorded since Tuesday's contests in 22 states comes on the heels of an eye-poppping $32 million raised by Obama in January and the record-shattering $100 million each Obama and Clinton raised in 2007 in their neck-and-neck race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Obama has been riding a wave of fundraising from large donors and small Internet contributors. While not matching Obama's pace, Clinton also saw an online surge of donations from 35,000 new contributors since midnight Tuesday, Clinton campaign aides said.
