How the Electoral College Sucks - I'll break it down!

Example

As American presidential elections are coming up, ponder this:

• A vote for president in Maine is worth more than two votes for president in California.

• A vote for president in North Dakota is worth more than three votes for president in California.

I made this lovely graphic to show the value of a presidential vote in each state, compared to California. For example, Louisiana is labeled +39%. That means voting for president in Louisiana has 39% more value than voting for president in California - five votes from Louisiana equals almost seven votes from California. I decided to use California as a basis of comparison because I live here and because we rock.

Why is this happening?
Because the Electoral College sucks.

For those of you who are new to this or who didn’t pay attention in highschool. . . the Electoral College is how we vote a president into office: you cast your vote, and whoever gets the majority of your state’s votes wins all of the state’s “Electoral Votes.” Whoever wins all of those becomes president. Usually.

Here’s the catch: Because of something known as the “Connecticut Compromise” or “Great Compromise,” the number of electoral votes each state has does not accurately reflect their population size. This was originally a way to prevent the interests of smaller states from being trampled on by bigger states.

In simple terms: Alaska (with an estimated 2007 population of 683,478) has 3 electoral votes. California (with an estimated 2007 population of 36,553,215) has 55 electoral votes.

• For every 227,826 people in Alaska, there is one electoral vote.

• For every 664,603 people in California, there is one electoral vote.

A presidential vote in Alaska has 192% more value than a vote from California.
Which sucks.

Some Highlights:
• Presidential votes in some states carry over twice the value of a vote from California: Alaska (+192% more value), Delaware (+131%), Hawaii (+107%), Maine (+102%), Montana (+108%), New Hampshire (+102%), Rhode Island (+151%), South Dakota (+150%),

• Presidential votes in some states carry over three times the value of a vote from California: North Dakota (+212% more value), Vermont (+221%), and Wyoming (+281%)

• Only two states have presidential votes of less value than California: Texas (-6% less value), Utah (-13% less value).

For some reason i lost it when i saw the 'stache. LMAO.

Hood Snack Classics

True corner store connoisseurs know where Lemonheads stand in the Hoodsnacks™ hall of fame. On my all-time list they rank somewhere between “Now Laters” and licorice. Developed in 1962 from the same formula that brought us Red Hots, Lemonheads have become one of the most successful candies of its time.

Street Art Animation

MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo.

On first glance I thought this was nothing more than a stop motion animation that had been digitally placed over an urban backdrop. But then I looked closer and began to notice all the faded outlines left behind the figures as they moved along the wall and sidewalk, and realized that the artist actually painted and shot the entire thing step-by-step, motion-by-motion right there on the street. I can’t imagine how much time went into creating this, or how many other works were wiped out in the process, but its simply amazing! - Chris Brogan

Get ready for Captain America!!

In Ironman

Example

In The Hulk

Example

A few perceptive observers noticed during the theatrical run of "Iron Man" that in the scene where Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) walks in on Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his armor is being removed, there was something on the workbench behind him. Circular, with red and white stripes and a half-completed star in the center, it was speculated that this was Captain America's iconic shield. In a Q&A session in Santa Monica last month, director Jon Favreau confirmed that it is indeed Cap's shield. He said a visual effects artist at Industrial Light & Magic Iron Manhad placed it there just as a joke. But Favreau loved the little "Easter egg" and decided it should stay. Captain America himself made a cameo in "The Incredible Hulk," but don't feel bad if you didn't see it. While director Louis Letterier had hinted in interviews that they had shot an appearance, the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. But now it can finally be seen in the bonus features on the DVD, as first spotted by FilmSchoolRejects.com. In the original opening scene of the movie, Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) travels to the Arctic, away from civilization, to try to end his own life and rid the world of the Hulk. Incredible Hulk There, buried in the ice, is the frozen body of Captain America. It's a little difficult to make out the figure, but again he can be identified by his shield.

The character is scheduled to get his own film, called "The First Avenger: Captain America," in May of 2011. Then he's expected to join Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and other Marvel heroes in the group "Avengers" movie that July. The speculation is that the first movie will be his origin story, set during World War II like the initial comics. Then he will be frozen and brought back in modern times to join the team, just like he did in the books. Jon Favreau has stated he'd like to direct "The Avengers," but first he's focusing on "Iron Man 2," hitting screens in May 2010.

“Still Swift:King of All B-Boys”

You know what’s amazing about this video? After dancing this hard for over a quarter of a century, my boy, the legendary Prince Ken Swift should have caused so much wear and tear on his joints and ligaments by now, that he should barely be able to walk or even raise his arms above his head. Much less, keep dancing better than ever and better than most. Humans were not built for this. Recognize and respect.

I HEART NYC

Example

So the NY rat (along with pigeons) are both the unofficial mammal mascots of the city, a given. But where did the "I HEART NY" logo come from? One of the world's most recognizable logo's was initially created to boost tourism during the late 70's by Milton Glaser as a pro bono job. The original logo has far succeeded anyones expectations reviving New Yorkers pride also inspiring numerous parodies throughout the year's. But what do I know, grew up on the west coast for the greater part of my life, I could be completely off on this one. Roll the tape anyways just for kicks.
